"I recently attended the Racecar Vehicle Dynamics and MoTec Data Acquisition seminar taught by Claude Rouelle in Houston. I have to say it was far more than I ever expected. I was taught not only how a racecar behaves but more importantly why a racecar behaves the way it does. I found the information to be absolutely invaluable and cannot wait to take the 12 day seminar. If I had classes in college taught with the type of enthusiasm that Claude teaches with I would be a college student for life. I have NEVER enjoyed a class more than I did the class with Claude. Finally, somebody has revealed the magic to me and I am very grateful. Thank you very much Claude Rouelle!!!" "The seminar was worthwhile and enjoyable. The logically approached presentation helps to gain a new perspective on ways that you view vehicle dynamics and data acquisition. It was refreshing to have Claude explaining things clearly and precisely whilst being able to relate this to actual cases from his 'databank' of experience. Although the seminar is intensive, the interaction between the people attending helped a lot in clearing many things up and also made the seminar more interesting. "One thought that was in my head after the course......when I was starting off, where was somebody like Claude to explain things so clearly rather than having to learn the hard way?" "Claude Rouelle's Race Car Engineering seminar was well laid out and very time effective. I am a senior aerospace engineer with a masters degree in aerospace engineering having worked in stability & control, flying qualities and flight controls for various companies such as Boeing-Vertol, Grumman, Lockheed and McDonnell-Douglas now The Boeing Company. My passion for race cars has run deep for many years in both aerodynamic consulting and, now, race car set-up. This seminar brought together all the terminology, input and criticality of each of the separate components of a total race car: suspensions, tires, shocks, chassis rigidity, aerodynamics, weight transfers, roll centers and more. All of this besides tertiary items to make your input very effective as a race car engineer such as questionnaire templates to exploit that very important driver-engineer line of communication. "Claude's experience and endless stories of competition are at the nth degree of suspenseful if you like auto racing and their set-up. This seminar jump-started my hands on engineering interest wholeheartedly." "Claude gave us the indispensable basis to the understanding of race car dynamics principles. Our communication with our drivers will be enriched and more efficient. The incredible diversity of examples and illustrations given during the seminar allowed all of us to understand complex phenomena not always well mastered. "Formula One demands hyper-specialists. However, I encourage everyone who works in racing to attend this seminar: they will get a better, more global vision of racecar engineering." "A complete guide to the practical application of vehicle dynamics in the motor racing environment. Comprehensive notes which tackle the rigorous maths head on, with worked examples. Claude doesn't gloss over any of the hard issues, but will happily digress to answer even the most difficult questions. Thoroughly worthwhile for any serious race engineer." "Two members of the Curtin Motorsport FSAE team attended the MoTec Claude Rouelle course. The first day covered the use of the MoTec dash and Engine Control Unit. The following days were spent with Claude discussing vehicle dynamics and data acquisition. With the course covering a wide scope of technical knowledge and quality of information, the team is now armed with many new theories and a great deal of knowledge to try out in the quest for more speed." "As a new participant in auto racing, this class has brought me up to speed in a way no text book is capable of doing. The explanation of vehicle kinematics how to apply data acquisition is excellent. I highly recommend this class to anyone wanting to get the most of data acquisition." "My fascination of how to make any car work better has been with me since I was a young man. "Like most teenagers, I did a lot of stupid things unknowingly because I didn't know better. Later, after getting a degree in engineering, I started to apply that knowledge and the results continued to improve, if for no other reason than I kept track of what I was doing and tried to quantify the results. "Decades went by and I plugged away at trying to better understand what the cars were doing, only now I was focusing 100% on their just before, during and just after corners. I studied every book on the subject I could get my hands on, but still all the pieces didn't quite make sense. some important issues remained un-addressed or not clearly enough defined. "When I saw Claude Rouelle's Vehicle Dynamics Seminar advertised and read what could be learned, I was thrilled that maybe this was the force that would put it all together in my mind. I took the course and was blown away at the comprehension of Claude's knowledge and understanding, but equally so by his incredible patience with my ceaseless questions - I just didn't want to move on until I fully understood the subject. By the second day, it was clear that I wasn't going to get it all and that I would just have to take the class again a year or so later, but what I did get was quantum leaps in my baseline knowledge, and most importantly, how to look at and evaluate in logical steps what a race car is doing." "I am very happy to have been at the seminar because it has helped me to see how the basics I have learned at university are applied in motorsports. The examples used are easy to understand and as the seminar is not packed with lots of maths I guess one can recommend it to anybody who wants to get a better understanding of a racecar." "I found the seminar extremely informative and enjoyable. Many topics were included, all of which were covered well. I learnt many new things, and I liked the interaction between all of the people attending the seminar because it provided different views and approaches to problems." "I decided to take Claude Rouelle's MoTeC Vehicle Dynamics Course to help me, as an open wheel race car driver, better understand what my career is based on: race cars. A driver these days simply can't show up at the track and just concentrate on his driving alone. A successful racing driver has to have it all and being knowledgeable about the most important part of the equation, the car, is by far one of the most important skills. Mr Rouelle's course opened my eyes to so much information that I would have never thought about and now it is routine to incorporate these learning every day at the race track. One of the best parts about the course is the purposely set, small number of people so that you can ask as many questions as you would like as the course goes on. I really didn't want to let the secret out but, for a driver there is no question at all, this is a huge advantage on any race weekend." "The Race Car Dynamics and Data Acquisition Seminar provides engineers and crew chiefs an opportunity to sit and learn side by side. From an engineers point of view, the seminar sparked thoughts and direction I had overlooked in the past. The way the seminar is presented is excellent. The material and examples are delivered in an easy to follow approach" "I found the time I spent at the Race Car Dynamics and Data Acquisition Seminar very worthwhile. It provides a solid overview of vehicle dynamics and lays the foundation for further study and application. I would recommend it for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of this subject which is critical to successful performance on the track." "Claude Rouelle's Race Car Dynamics and Data Acquisition Seminar is the knowledge tool for excellence in any racecar environment. Actually, after many years of telemetry development in F1, I really recycled my technical skills attending it. I say it's a must for anyone who really want to get involved in racing technology" "During this seminar I have learned a lot from Claude's unique combination of his vast experience in the highest ranks of racing and his very solid theoretical background. Even if you think you know it all, you better join to check it out! The handout is complete, and helps you to digest all three days later on. It gives you the competitive edge your opponents might not have." "The course effectively starts at the basics, and carries to the more complex use of data acquisition for optimizing race car performance. The seminar utilizes all aspects of vehicle dynamics, which is imperative for achieving peak performance. A definite must for anyone involved in race car set-up!" "I attended the Race Car Dynamics and Data Acquisition Seminar given by Claude Rouelle and found it most informative. In our area of interest we are often on the fringe of race car engineering and it was most enlightening to get an overview of the total picture. I would recommend the course to anyone, like us, who deals with a small part of the race car, and for junior or aspirant race engineers who should benefit from Claude's wealth of experience." "I was pleasantly surprised to find much more information on race car dynamics than I ever imagined could be available in one place ... I would highly recommend the seminar to anyone in the racing industry that I do not have to race against."

"I attended the first Australian Claude seminar, put on by MoTeC. All I can say is I wish I had been able to attend one some years ago. It would have short cut the learning process of becoming a race engineer by many years. Claude adds his years of experience and a few laughs to make an entertaining and technically interesting few days. To an experienced engineer, Claude adds a new dimension, for a person wanting to make their way in the sport the seminar is a must." "I am a mechanical engineer by trade and have been dabbling in motorsports for the past 12 years. I learned many valuable things by trial and error in those years, but by far, your seminar is the most valuable three days in my education. You managed to pass on an incredible amount of your experience and education, in a manner where I could go to the track and instantly begin applying what I learned. I am currently working as an engineer for a two car team in the BF Goodrich Trans Am Series and began applying the information from your class right from day one. I am often referring to the class materials you provided also as a quick reference. "Your ability to teach the complexities of race car engineering with an emphasis on actually applying the knowledge in the real world, is extremely valuable and I would definitely recommend the seminar to anyone who either drives or works on race cars. Your class content will help anyone (of any experience or education level) understand the important concepts in race tires, shocks, suspension geometry, aerodynamics and driving style and how to properly use a data acquisition system to improve the performance of the car and driver." "You took an immensely complex subject and broke it down into components that could be assimilated by audience members of various levels of experience. The graphics were well done and easily understood, and the supporting text and real-life examples helped with the comprehension. I find I apply the knowledge more in my SCCA Formula racing than my professional Vintage Racing, but at every event, I seem to find one or more applications of the information." "I found the subject matter covered fascinating. The practical examples you were able to give us added a valuable new dimension to the work I felt I already understood. I have been able to make use of a lot of the work with my own students and I am sure they have benefited from the course as well! The extra information you sent after the course was also very welcome." "My name is Chris Harrison and I own Harrison Auto Dynamics a preparation and fabrication shop in Phoenix AZ. we primarily service the amateur SCCA road racers in the southwest. When I signed up I expected to learn the nuts and bolts of data acquisition. I was pleasantly surprised to find much more information on race car dynamics than I ever imagined could be available in one place. It validated a lot of what I thought I knew and opened my eyes to a lot I did not know. The format was first class throughout and I refer to the handbook regularly. "Now that I have had time to use what I learned I find I have many more questions and am considering signing up again. I would highly recommended the seminar to anyone in the racing industry that I do not have to race against. All in all a great and enjoyable learning experience. Thank you very much." "Using fundamentals, Claude's seminar illustrates the value of fully understanding the complexities of racecar dynamics. Without this kind of understanding, you are only guessing. This seminar is must for any serious designer, track engineer or driver." "I found the course very intensive, and extremely useful. I certainly gained significant in depth knowledge concerning the relationship between suspension setting and tire characteristics, methods of instrumenting race cars and basic information regarding data acquisition and data interpretation. "In addition to the actual lectures I found that the extensive course notes provided during the seminar form a very useful reference book. "I can fully recommend the course to all DAG personnel and chassis engineers." "A great foundation for any driver. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot." "As a supplier of Data Acquisition systems, I enrolled in Claude's seminar to familiarize myself with the needs and demands of different race teams. The seminar taught me the importance of different parameters and the order of importance when analyzing the data. I would recommend Claude's class to anyone that currently utilizes or plans to use data systems in the future." "The presentation of concepts in a visual format in addition to examples truly aids in the understanding of vehicle dynamics and helps one to think even further along into complex problems. "I really enjoyed my time at the seminar and would recommend to anyone from the top on down to the club racer looking for that slight edge." "I have appreciated this seminar because it allows for rapid growth in the execution of tasks assigned to the engineer since he can understand what is being looked for almost before it is asked of him. "This seminar presents perfectly the tasks of one responsible for the acquisition of data for a large team." "I have much appreciation for this very interesting seminar. The syllabus we were given in this seminar was so helpful that I have had the occasion to reread it many times." "This course permitted me to recall a certain number of ideas that I had stored in a corner of my mind, maybe even forgotten, but also to learn certain pearls of wisdom that I hadn't known. "The shock speed histogram and its bell curve is, I think, an example of a simple pearl of wisdom that allows, in the blink of an eye, to check where you are. I have looked at it every weekend since the seminar!" "Practical and direct advice to efficiently put vehicle dynamics knowledge into action. A useful formation for a learner who wants to discover new principles of analysis or for a theoretician who wants to know how to verify his hypotheses during a test." "Those of us at Michelin would like to think that all racecar performance depends on the way our products work. Claude has forced us to consider that other vehicle parameters may have some major influence too. What a disappointment! But what an opportunity! "It would be incomplete to speak about Claude Rouelle's seminar in just a simple word. The very concrete, rigorous and exhaustive content makes this educational opportunity invaluable for those in the racing car business." "I decided to attend the Claude Rouelle seminar for two reasons. I knew many people who had attended and recommended the seminar "After attending the seminar this past week I can honestly say that I have learnt a lot from it. I feel that what I knew was just a little snowflake on a large mountain. "Being an aspiring race engineer, the seminar showed my strengths and my weaknesses. "As a South African I know that seminars are in great demand, however the cost would seem a hurdle for most. I personally think it was worth every cent. "Brilliant ... and I encourage any young aspiring race engineer to go."

"During the 3-day seminar, Mr. Rouelle dives into the importance of understanding vehicle setups and systems using kinematics, dynamics, aerodynamics, forces and characteristics of tires. The 3-day Racecar Dynamics and Data Acquisition Seminar is an intense, information-packed learning experience. This seminar covers basic engineering principles of racecar dynamics and how to apply them. All participants, including team engineers, mechanics, and technicians, will learn how to use data acquisition to understand, analyze, predict and improve a car's handling." "There's little wonder that teams like SBR are successful. If it has people like Rouelle on it's books; he's logical, has an almost immeasurable depth of knowledge and, maybe most significantly, a passion and a determination that what he knows will work." "The seminars are about helping engineers reassess the way they go about their job, and help eliminate guesswork. A wrong guess can be expensive, not only in terms of speed, but also in terms of cost (important) and time (possibly more important)." "High in useful information, low in erroneous content, professionally and engagingly presented. Recommended." "In order to meet the objectives of all these participants Claude draws from his wealth of personal experience to tailor the course to their backgrounds. The information provided in the course notes is further reinforced by practical examples from the success that Claude has enjoyed in F3, European Touring cars, IRL and Formula Nippon. Although I found the course to be very intense, it was Claude's sheer enthusiasm and passion for motor sport that made it enjoyable and easier to understand." "In recent years computer data-acquisition has become a ubiquitous tool at all levels of motorsport. Despite this however the effective use of such powerful technology is often poorly understood and rarely used to its maximum potential, even in professional race teams. " Claude Rouelle has successfully addressed one of the major shortfalls in the use of data-acquisition in his cleverly structured seminars on Data-Acquisition and Vehicle Dynamics. How can recorded data be properly understood in terms of basic engineering principles?

"In October 2000 I attended an intensive three-day seminar presented by Rouelle and found it a very rewarding experience. Each seminar is tailored to the needs of the participants, in this case race and data-engineers from professional teams along with a few engineers from manufacturers of suspension components. "During the seminar Rouelle explained the basic principles of vehicle dynamics as applied to performance analysis of racing cars, and how data from an on-board computer can be used to understand and quantify performance parameters. A logical approach was presented, based on years of personal experience that will help race engineers at all levels of the sport to consistently prepare racecars that perform close to their maximum potential. "The content of the seminar drew heavily on personal experience and made frequent use of anecdotes that added interest and relevance to what could have become a dry, academic experience. Rouelle also encouraged a valuable and lively exchange of ideas between the participants. "Despite this being a fairly intensive three days I would recommend it to race engineers at all levels of experience. For those already familiar with the engineering principles, the bringing together of vehicle dynamics and data-acquisition in a very practical way will stimulate new ways of thinking. For the newcomer it is an excellent introduction to solving the problems and compromises involved in setting up a racecar." "Even race car engineers who already know everything, say the program was worth just getting a different perspective on things. And I must say that it inspired me to some interesting new ideas." "...take it from me, and the many other satisfied customers, that Claude Rouelle's MoTeC courses are worth every dollar of what, at first, looks like a rather high price. That is, unless you have 20 years to spare to learn it all yourself the hard way. And then you have to try to catch up to those who had this head start." |

"As a freshman entering into collegiate life at Washington University in St. Louis, I had no idea what direction my engineering career would take. "Claude is an incredible professor. His knowledge is unparalleled, and he has the experience to back everything up. I could not have asked for a more informative session than what was given, and I will surely be back the next three years of my college career. During those three years, I hope to possibly intern for OptimumG, and someday work in racing in Germany or Argentina. Nevertheless, Claude Rouelle's seminar contained an incredible amount of information that has proved to be an invaluable resource in the time line of my career as a racing engineer. I cannot find a good way to express my gratitude to Mr. Rouelle other than a thank-you letter for now. "I will be in attendance again." "The seminar with Claude was great, I heard about it from a fellow FSAE member at Ryerson University. The student discount made it very attractive, and being immediately following the competition reduced travel time. Claude brought an excellent balance of theory supported by hands-on experience. The section regarding interpreting the data attained from the linear pots, including damper velocity histograms was helpful and I am using this method now. "I heard about the seminar through other team members that had attended before. " I am part of a research group that conducts research into stamping structures for Ford and Volvo. Some of my research students help supervise the FSAE team at Deakin. Knowing a lot about modeling and materials, but not a lot about vehicle dynamics, my students suggested that I attend Claude's Race Car Engineering seminar. " It was one of the best workshops I have attended. I learnt so much about race car dynamics, but I also learnt that greater racing understanding comes only from rigorous analysis. Claude's passion for his topic drove us through two and a bit days of tires, kinematics and weight transfer. "I really like the explanation of 3D instantaneous roll centers, the diagrams indicated how each axis was determined (which is difficult on a 2D page). " I would recommend this course for any FSAE student, or racing enthusiasts. May be next year I'll be helping Deakin to victory in the Aussie FSAE. " Dr. Bernard Rolfe "I really enjoyed the seminar, I have no complaints at all. In fact this seminar enhanced and stimulated us to go further and build the car for the FSAE event. "On the way back home for several hours that is all we could talk about is what we learned and trying to get better organized as a group. All of us were impressed and really glad we took the time to come to the seminar. The Q&A session was awesome as well. It gave us a chance to ask the "pros" about the FSAE competition. Everyone was professional and the seminar was organized very well. This seminar that every FSAE team should attend, because there is more to a Formula car then just horsepower and engine size. "Thanks again for this opportunity." Joshua Straka "The Vehicle Dynamics Seminar was awesome! I would like to go to the 12-day seminar someday. Ed Sackley "I would like to send my personal thanks for the seminar over the week end. In all my time as a student I have never been so interested and excited about a subject. The seminar was absolutely brilliant; the timing, the content and simply the way you put the theory across; no book can compete! Our racing team will benefit hugely at FS 2006." Lee Comerford

"I would highly recommend Claude's seminars to everyone. I found the topics very informative and presented in an amazing way. Claude does an excellent job of making the topics fun and interesting to learn. The seminar was enjoyable, and I looked forward to going back each day. I feel he did a better job then any professor I have had in college. I enjoyed the FSAE seminar so much that I am looking into attending the 12-day seminar in the future. Wayne Gross "I found the seminar very helpful and thought it was excellent. I recommended it to a few of my teammates that did not attend and they now plan on attending next year's FSAE seminar. Marcus Shen "I was very impressed with Claude's seminar! "I heard about it through our team leader. Learned some interesting "tidbits" that will help in the design of our next car as well as a better understanding of how the racecar works as a whole, not just individual components or systems. "I heard about this seminar from a half dozen or so people on my team that had already taken it. "I heard about Claude's seminars from previous team members who had been to the seminar and strongly recommended it. Claude's enthusiasm and passion for racing would make it a worthwhile experience even in the unlikely event that you learn nothing about vehicle dynamics. I will be recommending the seminar to next year's team just as it was recommended to me." Bryan Maris "The Racecar Engineering seminar hosted by Claude Rouelle enabled me to learn about the highly advanced field of racecar design in a rapid yet understandable fashion. Make no mistakes that this course is highly recommended to racing engineers of all levels and specializations. I will definitely be in attendance again next year. " "The seminar was great! I've read all the books out there, but Claude goes deeper, giving you some highlights, techniques, and tricks that everyone else leaves out. I'd recommend it to any racer at any level with any background." Jeremy S. Neubauer "I heard about the seminar from team members who had previously attended.
